Sharpe CPA / For CPAs / Bank statement workbook
Give it the monthly statements. You get back an Excel workbook with every transaction, each month proved to the bank’s own ending balance, the checks in number order with the gaps, totals by category, and a reconciliation ready to fill in. Free, no account needed.
Step 1
Choose all of them at once — the PDFs downloaded from the bank’s website, or the bank’s CSV export. More than one account is fine; they are kept apart.
The statements stay on your computer. They are read by this page in your browser and the workbook is written there too. Nothing is uploaded, stored or seen by anyone.
What you get
A reading you cannot check is not worth much, so every statement is proved: its beginning balance, plus what was read in, less what was read out, has to come to the ending balance the bank printed.
Sign-offs; each month’s beginning balance, deposits, electronic credits, checks, other debits and ending balance, proved and checked against the month before; the year in total; and the points to look at — a statement that does not prove, a missing month, a check that cleared twice.
Every line of every statement with date, month, type, check number and the bank’s description, and columns for payee, memo and category. Filter it by month, type or category and the totals follow.
Receipts and payments by category, filling in as the transactions are coded. The checks in number order, with every number that did not clear — outstanding, void, or cleared outside the year.
The balance per the last statement, with room for deposits in transit and outstanding checks, the balance per books, and the difference.
It reads statements that were produced by the bank as PDFs. A scanned statement is a picture of the page and has no text in it to read; download the statement from the bank’s website, or export the transactions as CSV.
